Typical turnaround

Brackets and small repairs often same day; trailer floors, crossmembers and fabrication 1 to 3 days

Frame work is quoted after inspection against the OEM repair guidance. Mobile welding is scheduled during shop hours.

A cracked frame, a broken bracket, a soft trailer floor. MIG, TIG and stick welding in the shop or from the service truck, done to the frame rules.

MIG, TIG and stick welding and custom fabrication for trucks and trailers, in the bay or from the service truck, with frame repairs done to OEM guidance and 49 CFR 393.201.

What separates a weld that holds from one that cracks beside the bead

Anyone with a machine can lay a bead on a trailer crossmember. The weld that lasts is the one with the crack stop-drilled first, the base metal ground clean, the right process and filler for the alloy, the joint prepped so the weld goes through, and a reinforcement plate sized and placed where the stress actually runs, not where it was convenient.

On a truck frame there is a second rule: the OEM’s. Heat-treated frame rails lose their strength when they are welded, which is why 49 CFR 393.201 only allows welding on the frame in line with the manufacturer’s recommendations and bars holes in the rail flanges. A shop that welds a crack in a heat-treated rail and calls it fixed has handed you a frame that will crack again beside the weld and a violation at the next Level 1 inspection. We repair frames the way the OEM says to, which often means a crack repair to their spec plus bolted reinforcement plates, and when a rail is past repair we say so.

Processes and materials

MIG, TIG and stick welding in bay 14 and from the service truck. Steel, aluminum and stainless steel. Cast iron repair where the part is worth it.

Aluminum trailer work is TIG or spool-gun MIG, with the oxide cleaned off and the correct filler, because an aluminum weld done like steel is a weld you will see again.

What we weld and fabricate

Frame and structural

  • Crack repair and reinforcement plates to OEM guidance
  • Crossmember repair and replacement
  • Subframe and body mount work
  • Frame straightening and measurement

Trailers

  • Floor repair: wood and aluminum floors, the crossmembers under them and the sills they sit on
  • Side panel, post and top rail welding
  • Door frame and threshold repair; swing and roll-up door hardware
  • Ramp repair and hinge rebuilds
  • Landing gear mounts, bracing and replacement
  • Lighting and air line brackets

Fifth wheels, hitches and couplers

  • Fifth wheel replacement, lock jaw repair, slide mechanism service, height adjustment and grease service
  • Hitches, pintle hooks and couplers, mounted and reinforced to the rating

Hydraulics, PTO and wet kits

The hydraulic work from the old specialized-services page is here now. PTO installation, wet kit installation for dump trucks, roll-offs and specialty equipment, hydraulic pump and cylinder repair, and hose fabrication, built on the truck in the bay.

Hi-rail gear

Annual inspections, rail wheel replacement, guide wheel service and lift mechanism repair on hi-rail equipped trucks, with the inspection certification the railroad asks for.

Custom fabrication

Brackets, mounting plates and equipment mounts. Tool boxes. Bumpers and grille guards. Exhaust system repair and fabrication. Steps, headache racks, hose trays. If you can sketch it on the hood of the truck, we can usually build it.

Mobile welding

The service truck carries a welder and does on-site repairs in the Toledo area during shop hours, Monday to Friday 8 to 5: fleet yards, job sites, and a trailer with a broken crossmember sitting at a dock in Perrysburg or Northwood that cannot be moved until it is fixed. We cover Toledo and its suburbs and reach into southeast Michigan. Say where the unit is and what broke, and we will tell you whether it is a service-truck job or a bay job.

Mobile welding is scheduled during shop hours only. What we do offer inside those hours is front-of-line scheduling when a trailer is stuck and a load is waiting.

How a job runs

  1. Inspection and measurement. For frame work, a look at the OEM repair guidance for that rail before any heat goes on.
  2. A written estimate with the method: process, filler, reinforcement, and what gets replaced instead of welded.
  3. Prep: stop-drill cracks, grind to clean metal, fit and clamp.
  4. Weld, then dress the weld and prime or paint bare metal so it is not rusting in a month.
  5. Verify: dimensions checked, doors swung, floor loaded, hydraulics cycled.

Certified welders on staff, NAPA Certified Truck Care Center, ASE certified technicians in the same building, which matters when the broken bracket turns out to be a symptom of a worn torque rod.

Timing and pricing

Brackets, hinges and small repairs are often same day. Trailer floors, crossmembers and fabrication run one to three days depending on scope and material. Frame work is quoted after inspection.

Call for the current rate. Book with the 30-second request form or call (419) 724-2475. A photo of the break with your request shortens the estimate.

What the tech checks

  • Crack length, location, and whether the rail is heat-treated
  • OEM frame repair guidance for the rail
  • Base metal condition: rust, fatigue, prior repairs
  • Crossmember and gusset attachment points
  • Trailer floor, sills and crossmembers underneath
  • Door frames, thresholds and hinge wear
  • Fifth wheel lock jaws, slide and mounting bolts
  • Landing gear mounts and bracing
  • Hydraulic cylinders, hoses and fittings for leaks
  • Hi-rail wheels, guide wheels and lift mechanism

Questions drivers and fleet managers ask

Do you offer mobile welding in Toledo?

Yes. The service truck carries a welder and does on-site repairs in the Toledo area during shop hours, Monday to Friday 8 to 5: fleet yards, job sites and trailers stuck at a dock. Tell us where the unit is and what broke, and we will say whether it is a service-truck job or a bay job.

Can you weld aluminum truck and trailer components?

Yes. Aluminum work is TIG or spool-gun MIG, with the oxide cleaned off and the correct filler. Floors, side panels, top rails, ramps, tool boxes and brackets.

Can you weld a cracked truck frame?

Only the way the OEM allows. Heat-treated rails lose strength when welded, and 49 CFR 393.201 limits frame welding to the manufacturer's recommendations. Most frame repairs are a crack repair to the OEM spec plus bolted reinforcement plates. When a rail is past repair we say so.

Do you do emergency welding?

During shop hours, yes, front of the line when a trailer or truck cannot move until it is fixed. We do not run outside shop hours.

Can you replace a trailer floor?

Yes. Wood and aluminum floors, the crossmembers under them and the sills they sit on, in sections or in full. Doors, thresholds and ramps at the same time if they need it.

Can you install a PTO and wet kit?

Yes. PTO and wet kit installation for dump trucks, roll-offs and specialty equipment, with hydraulic pump and cylinder repair and hose fabrication done in the same bay.

What does frame or trailer welding cost?

Call for the current rate. Small repairs are quoted on the spot; frame and floor work is quoted after inspection, with the method written out so you can compare it to any other estimate.
